The Aldenmoor Debating Championship is the oldest inter-collegiate debating competition in Britain, predating the Oxford and Cambridge Union Championships by several years. It was founded in 1863 by students of Pemberton and Halcyon Colleges, who disagreed vigorously about the proper interpretation of John Stuart Mill and resolved to settle the matter by formal argument.
Sixteen colleges compete across five preliminary rounds, two semi-finals, and a Grand Final held in the Union Hall’s main chamber. This year’s invited guest college is Balliol College, Oxford.
